WE CAN ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS
The two cottages are identical in terms of size, comfort, price, amenities, and location. The owners therefore reserve the right to assign the cottages upon your arrival.
If you have a preference, we will do our best to accommodate it, but we cannot guarantee it. Guaranteeing a specific cottage could force us to decline other bookings; thank you for your understanding.
In 21 years of welcoming guests, our visitors have always been very satisfied with this arrangement, and many loyal customers have stayed in both cottages over the course of their visits.
Yes. At La Belle Vilaine, our mission is to offer completely dog-friendly stays. Your dogs are therefore welcome in all rooms of the cottage.
Our own dogs have access to the sofa and sleep in our bedroom on their cushions; it seems only natural to us to grant the same freedom to your companions. Here, dogs are truly at home: they are part of the family.
To protect the furniture, we provide throws for the sofas and armchairs. We also supply a safety gate for the stairs, offering a solution for those who prefer that their dogs not go upstairs.
Yes. Each cottage has its own fully secured private garden.
The fences, 1.50 m high, are fitted with tight mesh that prevents even very small dogs from getting through.
Tarpaulins and hedges ensure complete privacy while still preserving a lovely open view of the countryside behind the gardens.
The two gardens can connect via the shared utility room for families or groups renting both cottages, or for stays with doggy friends.
Between the two gardens there is indeed a shared room, accessible through two separate secured doors (one for each cottage, each with its own key). Inside you will find parasols, barbecues, a washing machine, books, board games, as well as various dog equipment: bowls, sniffing mats, puzzles, crates (for dogs used to them), etc.
We invite you to explore our virtual tour to better visualize and understand the layout of the spaces.
In addition to the private gardens, two fenced areas are available at the front of the cottages.
The larger one is dedicated to games and activities with your dogs (such as ball throwing). Hoopers, agility, and flyball equipment are also provided there.
The second area includes a dog pool measuring 160 cm in diameter and 30 cm deep, equipped with a removable access ramp. You will also find a picnic table and parasols.
Yes. A large, secure parking area is available behind our gates. However, the gates are not locked.
The space can accommodate more than nine vehicles in total (including ours). The entrance doors of both cottages open directly onto this parking area, making arrivals and departures easy.
For safety reasons, we ask that dogs be kept on a leash in this shared area.
Yes, a wide variety of walks are available right outside the cottages. La Belle Vilaine is located in a quiet little hamlet, overlooking the Vilaine River, and lies on the GR349 long-distance hiking trail.
We offer suggested routes that we ourselves hike with our dogs. These maps are provided as photos that you can easily view on your phone. The routes follow small country roads, wooded paths, and footpaths leading down to the Vilaine River.
Whether you’d like to go for 30 minutes, 2 hours, or all day, you’ll find walks to suit your preferences.
Yes. Our dogs have been fed a raw diet (BARF) for 14 years, and we completely understand this need. We have two large freezers for storing their meat, and our guests can also store their dogs’ food there.
We simply ask that you let us know well in advance so we can plan for the necessary space.
There are many swimming spots suitable for dogs throughout the year. Our dogs, like those of our visitors, particularly enjoy the Vilaine River and several lakes located just a short drive away.
And of course, your companions also have access to a specially designated dog pool, ideal for cooling off and having fun in complete safety.
All the beaches are dog-friendly for most of the year. These beaches are about 30 minutes away. However, some have restrictions between June and September.
Within 30 minutes, there are several hiking trails along the cliffs that pass by small coves and beaches. These trails are accessible to dogs year-round.
Every summer, our guests easily find spots along the coast where other walkers are also out with their dogs. One beach in particular has no signs prohibiting dogs, except for the requirement to keep them on a leash during nesting season.
Yes. If you live in France or Belgium (and possibly other European countries) Holiday insurance certificates are generally included in home insurance policies. You simply need to request them from your insurer, most often directly online.
If travelling from the UK please take out travel insurance to cover your liability for any accommodation you rent. As you are paying by card you may well automatically have travel insurance included in your purchase. Please check and provide us with the necessary proof.
We do have liability insurance for our gîtes. However, any damage caused by tenants is not covered by this insurance. That’s why our insurance company recommends that we ask each of our guests for a holiday insurance certificate.
Elaine is a specialised dog trainer, known and respected across Europe and further afield.
Now semi‑retired, she offers discovery sessions exclusively to our holidaymakers staying in our cottages. She no longer provides classes for local residents.
During her career, she has led workshops in Hoopers and Scent Detection at numerous dog clubs in France, Belgium and Luxembourg. The majority of her trainees were dog club instructors or professional trainers themselves.
If you choose a stay that includes classes, you can decide the number of sessions (each lasting one hour) at the time of booking. The hourly rate covers all people and all dogs staying in the cottage. The lesson time is then shared among the different participants according to your preferences.
Sessions are organized according to the desired level — introduction or advanced — and may focus on the following disciplines: Hoopers, Scent Detection, Mantrailing, Dog Dancing or Treibball. Classes take place on our training ground located at the bottom of our garden, more than 100 m from the cottages.
In most cases, sessions are held in the morning, leaving you free to explore the region in the afternoon and evening.
🎁 *New for 2026 – Elaine is offering a free 1-hour session for every booking of 3 nights or more.
