Thanks for the wonderful break, we have had a great time ..... in an ideal location (nice and peaceful), we could not have chosen a better place to stay! Thanks to Elaine and Paul for thier friendly hospitality and all the help they gave us.

The cottage was just what we wanted and provided the background for a quiet holiday. Thank you Paul and Elaine for your hospitality.

Another wonderful holiday at La Belle Villaine! Second year here and there is still so much to see and do! The wildlife was great again - highlights the bats and wild plants. I catalogued over 70 species of wild plant on La Belle Vilaine land (some of which are uncommon in Britain and one or two (I believe) don't even occur there), but even this is incomplete because of the time of year - so there's plenty more to be added yet!(More info on Nature Notes page shortly) Thanks again to the Clark family for another great holiday!
(Mr. Burkmar)

..........We got in a few bird-spotting trips and I saw a few lifers (such as Black Kite and Sacred Ibis). Thanks again for your hospitality. (Master Burkmar the elder)

.........This is the second time we have come here and this visit was just as enjoyable, if not more so! The barbeque and boules match was one of the highlights.Thank you so much for everything you did to make the stay perfect. (Miss Burkmar)

..........Thank you for this nice holiday. (Master Burkmar the younger)

..........Thanks again for a brilliant time I think the rest of the family have said it all!
Look forward to returning.

An extra-big thank you to Elaine and Paul - the holiday would have been special without all your help, but you made it extra-special! All in all, we'll sing your praises to ayone who'll listen and start saving the pennies for next year's hols at La Belle Vilaine!
(Mr. and Mrs Hadley)

.... One of the nicest aspects of the holiday was the beautiful wildlife. The barbecue and boules match was wonderful. Thanks for your kindness and hospitality - hope to be back next year. (Miss Hadley the elder)

We had a wonderful holiday. The gîte is in a lovely location, well-equipped and beautifully clean. Paul and Elaine are excellent hosts, always helpful and friendly - they also provide lots of information on places to go etc. The French neighbours are charming and always willing to listen to our "clumsy" French, which has improved since we arrived 2 weeks ago. Thank you to Elaine and Cheryl for the dog agility display, it was spectacular. We brought our bikes and enjoyed cycling along the quiet lanes. We would certainly recommend "La Belle Vilaine Gîtes".

Thank you for a lovely holiday .... the wildlife will stay in my memory! I hope I can persuade Mum and Dad to come back next year! (9 yrs old)

This holiday's been so good that I don't know where to begin. Thank you so much for a lovely holiday and possibly the best I've ever had and one that I will never forget.. (follows 4 very informative pages of wildlife sightings with details of locations and advice on identification) ............. I know we will be back soon! (13 yrs old)

Lovely gîte, beautiful location, really nice hosts - very good recipe for a lovely holiday! As well as the species of butterfly not found at home, the species found at home are here in far greater abundance. This area is very quiet, the roads are easy to walk. Looking forward to seeing our wildlife photos on your great website!

Many thanks Elaine and Paul for a great holiday, away from my devastating loss of my wife. Elaine and Paul are excellent hosts. There is plenty to do and see without travelling great distances. I had many interesting chats with Marie next door - I think we understood each other! To sum up - lovely place, lovely people!

We have had a lovely relaxing break in the gite. It is in a lovely location and is really peaceful. We have also benefitted from excellent weather.
We had some lovely days at Piriac sur Mer and if anyone is visiting there, would recommend the paella at 'Bodega Bay'.
We also visited Carnac but did not go on the best day - there are no guided tours on Tuesdays & Thursdays!
Really liked the suggested walks that Paul & Elaine have included in the info folder.
Anyway thanks for a lovely week.

Second
Visit by the Osborne family.

I had a great stay. Thank you very much & thanks Elaine for e-mailing Sophie & Elise for me to meet.
We had a lovely ride to Guerande & the beach. Thank you as well for me seeing Gracie & Ficelle on the agility course.
We had a delightful trip to La Grande Briere and went on the horse & cart & the trip on the boat along the reed bed.
Love Sophie xx.

Another excellent week in the gite. Much better weather than last year, generally hot and sunny. Other visits to Guerande, Vannes, Les Marais Salants and La Grande Briere. A visit to La Bernard is made special when you chat to the shop keepers (especially at the charcuterie and patisserie - see Elaine to find where they are). The coffee shop on the corner is very special, the best coffee I have tasted & a chocolate drink to die for!

So in summary, great weather, great places to visit, great food & great drink!
A wonderful holiday.

I think we'll be back!
Love the area especially around Le Grande Brière.
The highlight of our holiday was the rural market at Kerhinet (Thurs) on all day but a good idea to get there around lunchtime & sample the local produce, it is mainly food stands (& drink, sample the aperitifs!) & live music.

Good for walking the dogs around the area too. Very pretty.
Had some lovely lomg walks, managed to get lost a few times but always found a friendly local to put us back on track. nice starting point from La Roche port for many walking routes. The dogs have had their best holiday ever!

So much more still to see & do.
Enjoyed the boules match, here's to "BLING" power!

Nice touch on arrival with the wine, Madelaines & dog treats.

Hope you keep up with the agility, if you need any help just e-mail me.

Good luck with the sailing & the new job.

Kind regards
Niki & Mick, Ruby & Sapphire.

We have very much enjoyed our stay in the gite, though the weather has been a bit variable. However, Elaine & Paul this is not your fault!
We have done a lot during the week that we've been here; we loved the Thursday market at La Roche Bernard, also our visits to Vannes, Guerande, Piriac-sur-Mer, Rochefort en Terre amongst others.
Thank you for the flowers and 'welcome' hamper - they were much appreciated.

I have really enjoyed my 2 weeks in France! Thank you to Elaine for taking me to th Doctors & ferrying me around as well!
The treasure hunt was really fun (I learnt a few things too) and the language challenge was really interesting. Thank you very much Paul & Elaine. I have left something in the gite for you HeHe HaHa.

From Claire xxxx
PS: I luv the pizzaries. I would deffinately reccomend them especially the one down by the boats!!

Many thanks Elaine & Paul for making us all feel so welcome.... just like being neighbours again! we have had a very relaxing & enjoyable holiday.
The gite is in a lovely location, especially experiencing the local life & meeting Marie next door. I did enjoy asking to buy eggs (oeufs) from her in French & she did understand me!
Would recommend hiring bikes from the tourist information office at Chappelle-des-Marais (but remeber there is a 100Euro deposit for each bike), cycle route to Saint-Joachim and Ile de Fedrun is well mapped out painted on road. On route here a crepe at Chez Chantel & jacky, best crepes we found & reasonably priced. Watch out for the Geese!
Claire & sam enjoyed the tree top experience, must be boked in advance though.
beaches around La Baule, nice & sandy, can be a bit busy with traffic. Beach at piriac-sur-mer, rocky, good for rock pool watching.
A visit to Guerande is a must plus the salt marshes.
Many thanks again to Elaine & Paul for taking the trouble to arrange our boules match and picnic a very enjoyable evening.
Could get used to the French way of life - must be remebered that everything except restaurants shut for 3 hour lunch breaks!
Thanks once again to Elaine for our little emergency.

Hi Elaine & Paul.

I am sat at home feeling very remiss as we forgot to enter our comments in the visitor book. We intended to do so on Friday evening but with one thing leading to another and packing up we completely forgot. Perhaps it wold be possible for you print off the comments & stick them in the book if you would like to.

All in all we had a wonderful stay. The gite was just right and the setting & neighbours made the holiday a truly enjoyable experience. Hearing the wildlife - doves & pigeons - last thing before sleep & on waking up - the cockerall - added to the experience. Richard was especially pleased to see Swallowtail butterflies and a Sacred Ibis and on our departure, you'll be very pleased to know Elaine, a Hoopoe.

Visits to local towns - particularly La Roche Bernard - to mooch around & sit to have a drink or something to eat helped us to soak up the atmosphere and gave plenty of opportunity to practice our French which was expertly taught by you Elaine. The number of settings devoted to nature & the choice of beaches available were an added bonus. We paticularly enjoyed taking out a rowing boat at Brèca and Penestin Beach provided Oli with the opportunity to practice his stone skimming skills and Libby to soak up the sun whilst reading.

Your hospitality was second to none - it was a real pleasure to spend the evening with Cheryl & Renaud, Gordon & the boys along with The Girlings playing boules & Oli loved training the dogs.

So a huge thank you to you all.

From Kath, Richard, Libby & Oli.

2006 Second visit by the Stevens family

We had a lovely stay and really enjoyed playing on the rock at La Roche Bernard, eating out and going to Barrage (Arzal). All in all it was just as good as last year.
From Kendra.

Thanks once again, Elaine Paul & Cheryl. Especially for helping us out when we realised how much we'd forgotten to bring with us!
As last year, we thoroughly enjoyed the week & will be back again.
All the best,

I have enjoyed my stay at the gites. I enjoyed the dog agility with your dogs, Gracie & Ficelle and doing the language challenge and generally speaking French.
Good days out have been the Oceanarium at Croisic, jardin au pappilons at Vannes, Vannes aquarium, Naudilenes Adventure Park and Briere park trip & horse drawn carriages.
Been living a life of croissants, brioche, pain, and chocolat and patisserie cakes (YUM YUM!)
Thenk you Elaine, Paul & Cheryl for a lovely stay.
From Claire.

I have also enjoyed my holiday in France. I liked asking for things in French. A visit to a French market is highly recommended. A visit to the Airbus factory in St Nazaire was the highlight of my holiday, although other members of the family may not agree, as I ended up with a large kit of the plane.
From John.

Many thanks to you all from us also for making us feel so welcome and helping to make our stay so enjoyable.
On this, our first visit to Brittany we found that it has much to offer - we particularly savourved the atmosphere of the local markets and found the people very friendly. The children also obviously enjoyed their stay, particularly the oportunity to learn and practise French, & the dog agility sessions.
The old 'Yes Minister' DVD's also provided good evening entertainment!
As we mentioned, we also made good use of the modern technology in our car in finding our way around and future visitors may find the GPS co-ordinates of the gite useful - they are :-
47 degrees 34' 25" N , 2 degrees 12' 43" W.

Second visit by the Sutton family

Had a very enjoyable stay. Gite roomy and comfortable. Kids enjoyed boules and swings - good idea to have things in 'utility' such as games and videos - in case of bad weather - not needed as superb weather though. Highlights of days out were Josselin, bike hire at Roche Bernard Campsite (ask Elaine or Paul for number). Fantastic day boating along La Vilaine and swimming while anchored up - hired boat from Arzal (again ask Elaine or Paul how to book - they arranged it for us!! Very helpful hosts!!!) Piriac-sur-Mer is a good seaside trip and Moules & Frites on harbourside restaurant excellent and very reasonable at 10 Euros!!

All in all a hard act to follow!!!

10-30 June 2006

Thank you Paul, Elaine & Cheryl for one of the most enjoyable & relaxing holidays we have ever had. You couldn't have made us feel more welcome and your gite has everything needed for a comfortable home-from-home stay.
We fell in love with La Roche Bernard, it's a delightful town to wander around in and there are friendly bars and excellent eating places. We can recommend the creperie in the old (No.15) building in The Place du Bouffay (it always looks closed but push the door & you'll find it isn't) and the restaurant on the far side of The Pont de La Roche Bernard.
Among many pretty and interesting places to visit we liked Rochefort-en-Terre and Guerande (bear in mind the midday closing hours) and the beach at La Baule is fantastic (dogs are allowed on the western end of the beach)
We have been here three weeks and still haven't been everywhere we wanted to - we will be back!

John & Judy - South Wales.

May 2006
A very friendly welcome by the whole family to a lovely, very clean gite. It was very nice of Elaine & Paul to invite us to the local bar to 'taste' local life. We enjoyed our visit to the local market with Elaine where she let Lauren buy her shopping 'in French'. Elaine also pointed out items & asked Lauren to name them - in French of course!
The pizza restaurant opposite the port (right on the water) in La Roche Bernard is very good. The pasta dishes were the best - try the lasagne- & the ice-cream is fantastic.
Piriac-sur-mer is a pretty fishing port with a good selection of eating places & there is a very good swimming pool en-route.
We tried the 'tree-top adventure course' between Guerande & Herbignac which caters for all.
Guerande, a medieval walled city is well worth a visit.
La Roche Bernard is a very nice port & we had a right laugh doing Elaine's treasure hunt challenge - but make sure you park in the right car park for the starting point! Lauren also enjoyed the language challenge - going into the shops & speaking in French to get her challenge card stamped.
We went on a river lunch cruise this was very relaxing & the food was very good.
Elaine, Paul & Cheryl were very helpful in booking our trips.
There are some nice local routes for jogging - see Elaine for a local map.
Next time we come we would like Lauren to practice more French with Elaine as she really enjoyed it.

A very enjoyable stay in a lovely locaton. Had good weather, but it was cold & windy - we even had a hail-shower walking along the beach at Pénestin. Days out included La Grande Brière, Guérande, Les Marais Salants (Salt Marshes) & Vannes. La Roche Bernard is lovely and the walk 'Circuit des Ponts' (Bridges Circuit) is to be recommended. Thank you to Elaine for the language tuition, including the trip to the market at La Roche Bernard. Thank you to Elaine & Paul for your guidance on places to visit - it has made the most of our week here. We hope to be back soon!

Kevin, Rachael & Sophie Osborne - Portsmouth.

Very comfortable gite. A great holiday with good weather. A big plus to see Sacred Ibis on several occasions. Can recommend the cliff walk from Mine d'or at Pénestin to Pointe de Bile. Also a very good meal to be had on the boat trip from the Barrage at Arzal, 2 hours up the River Vilaine and 2 hours back. Vannes, a medieval city well worth a visit to mention just a few of our trips.
Thank you Elaine & Paul.
